Beach “Pooh-Poohed” For the Fourth of July

Little Corona Beach will be closed for the holiday weekend

Little Corona Beach will be closed through the Fourth of July because of sewage spill that ran into the ocean via Buck Gulch.

A sewage line at Ridge Park Road and Newport Coast Drive broke shortly before noon Friday, Shannon Reed of the Irvine Ranch Water District told the Orange County Register.

Bacteria levels in water samples must test within state standards for two days in a row before the beach is reopened, meaning the earliest the popular stretch would be reopened would be Monday.

About 18,000 gallons of sewage is believed to have run in the gulch, about 3 miles upstream from the beach.

A bypass was installed around the broken section, and repairs were expected to take about two days.
