A suspected DUI driver was almost crushed to death after crashing into a tree which then toppled onto his car in Los Angeles late Monday.
A pedestrian was also struck after the driver lost control at Detroit and 8th streets at around 11 p.m, a Los Angeles Police Department spokesman said.
The vehicle ended up on the sidewalk before it came to a shuddering halt after hitting the palm tree.
Paremedics treated the pedestrian at the scene and he was released, as they had suffered minor injuries.
The driver was taken into custody on suspicion of driving under the influence.
