A 12-inch water main break today closed Benedict Canyon Drive until the evening.
Water started gushing to the surface just south of Mulholland Drive in the 3200 block of Benedict Canyon about 7:20 a.m. and motorists were advised to use Beverly Glen Boulevard or Coldwater Canyon Avenue.
Los Angeles Department of Water and Power crews shut off the flow, excavated the broken cast-iron pipe and worked to replace the broken section, Kim Hughes of the DWP said.
All repairs were completed by about 8 p.m., allowing Benedict Canyon Drive to be reopened, Albert Rodriguez of the DWP said.
The approximately 20 homeowners who were without water should be getting it very soon, Rodriguez said.
"Pressure is being returned," Rodriguez said.
