Police warned residents in the San Fernando Valley to be on alert after a woman was attacked Wednesday evening by an intruder who attempted to rape her, according to LAPD.
Police said the assault was reported around 5:30 p.m. in the 16800 block of San Jose Street. The victim fought off the attacker who then fled, according to LAPD.
According to the homeowner a man forced his way inside the home and pretended to be someone else. The homeowner was not home at the time of the invasion, but says it was her housekeeper, a woman in her 60s, who answered the door.
"It's terrible," said the homeowner "I just say to everybody, do not open your door."
Detectives spent the entire night combing through evidence at the home, but determined the suspect did not take any items from the home, according to police.
Neighbors were on edge Thursday and couldn't believe this would happen to a senior citizen.
"It's just not right, especially an older woman," said James Evangelista, a neighbor.
Details regarding injuries were not immediately available.
Police did not provide a description of the assailant and will continue to investigate this incident as a sexual assault.
