When it comes to injuries, the Los Angeles Lakers cannot catch a break. After undergoing a full workout during Wednesday’s practice in Miami, Xavier Henry has been shut down once again.
On Friday, Lakers coach Mike D’Antoni revealed Xavier Henry will miss at least another 10-14 days due to a knee injury. Henry originally went down with the injury in the first quarter of the Lakers’ loss to the Philadelphia 76ers on Dec. 29. He was expected to miss 7-10 days with the injury to his right knee, and Henry even walked out of Staples Center without the assistance of crutches that night.
After returning to the practice court and performing some drills including full contact one-on-one drills on Jan. 12, Henry experienced soreness, and the Lakers decided he still required 7-10 days of rest before returning to practice.
Ten days later, Henry returned to the practice court on Jan. 22.
Once again, Henry experienced soreness, and the Lakers again decided to shut him down. This time, though, Henry will undergo an MRI upon the team's return to Los Angeles on Monday. The Lakers are currently on the last two legs of a seven-game road trip, and Henry will stay with the team for the final two games.
Kobe Bryant and Steve Nash were also expected to be examined upon the team’s return to LA, but the setback to Henry points to the Lakers renewing Manny Harris’ 10-day contract. Harris’ original 10-day contract is set to expire ahead of Sunday’s game in New York, but the Lakers currently only have four healthy guards on the roster.
Along with Henry, the Lakers still have Nash, Bryant, Steve Blake and Jordan Farmar sidelined in this bizarre injury-cursed season.
