Police were searching for the suspected gunman who shot a man Wednesday night in Echo Park, leaving the victim in critical condition.
Officers responded to a shooting around 8:30 p.m. in the 500 block of Benton Way and found a man suffering from multiple gunshot wounds to the upper torso and head, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.
Police said the 44-year-old victim and the male shooter were involved in an altercation in the carport at the apartment complex when the gunman shot the victim.
The suspected shooter fled from the scene before officers arrived, according to the LAPD.
The victim was transported to a hospital in grave condition. He underwent surgery and his condition was upgraded to critical, according to the LAPD.
Police did not have a description of the suspect.
