Arrest in Shocking Unprovoked Attack on Bus Rider in Montebello

After several tipsters recognized the suspect in a video who sucker-punched a 50-year-old man after he exited a city bus last month, Montebello police said the suspect was in custody on unrelated charges.

Vincent Eric Ramirez, 32, was identified as the suspected attacker Friday afternoon.

The victim had just stepped off the bus near the intersection of Fourth Street and Whittier Boulevard around 8:20 p.m. on March 12 when the suspect allegedly followed him off the bus and punched him in the head, then kicked the victim three more times while he laid unconscious on the ground, according to a statement from the Montebello Police Department.

The suspect did not attempt to rob the victim and was last seen walking east on Whittier Boulevard and out of sight, the statement said.

Authorities said the case would be sent to Los Angeles County District Attorney’s office for filing consideration.

Anyone with information on this attack was asked to call Montebello police Detective Antista at 323-887-1200, ext. 249.
