A man who asked for a ride to a church in Northern Virginia robbed the driver, Fairfax County police said.

The victim was in his car when a stranger asked for a ride, police said. The stranger got in and asked to be taken to a nearby church.

Along the way, he asked to make a stop.

“The suspect asked the victim to stop at a local restaurant to use the restroom,” Fairfax County police Sgt. Greg Bedor said. “When the suspect returned to the car, a second suspect — a second male — arrived and sat in the backseat of the car.”

The two strangers demanded the driver take them to a bank in the Rose Hill Shopping Center.

“The two suspects told the victim to drive to a bank and withdraw cash,” Bedor said. “The two men took the cash from the victim and ran.”

There isn’t any evidence that the robbers pulled a gun or any other weapon.

Police haven’t said if the victim is a ride-share driver.

“It does happen, unfortunately, from time to time, and we investigate these cases thoroughly, and our detectives will get to the bottom of it, one way or another,” Bedor said.

The victim was only able to give police a very vague description of the two men.
