The victims were identified as an employee and one other person, believed to be a customer. The employee was shot in the face and the customer was shot in the buttocks as he was trying to flee the scene. They are both in stable condition, according to the LAPD.
Initial reports described the shooting as a robbery, but police later said that they needed to review surveillance video before determining a motive.
A witness who heard the gunshots and goes to the liquor store frequently said the employee had worked there for "a long time" and was described as a "really nice guy."
The witness, who did not want to be identified, said that the liquor store had recently taken additional safety measures.

"For the longest time there was no glass right there over the counter and just recently, probably in the last year, they put glass," the witness said. "And all that there is is a small box, probably 6-by-6 opening to pass money or anything, and apparently the bullet went through that small little opening."
The male shooter fled the scene and a description of him has not been released.
