Would-Be Burglar Shoots Resident in Encino

Police on Tuesday were searching for a would-be burglar who shot and wounded a resident who confronted him in a gated community in Encino, police said.

The incident happened at 12:37 p.m. in the at 5200 block of White Oak Avenue in Encino.

Two young men came home to find a would-be burglar inside their townhouse.

After a confrontation, the burglar shot one of the men twice, hitting his leg, police said.

The victim is hospitalized in stable condition, said Officer Ricardo Hernandez of the LAPD's Media Relations Section.

Several members in the community say crime is rare in the area, and the shooting confrontation was shocking.

"It's very scary," April Quintal said. "It is a very safe neighborhood."

It wasn't clear if the shooter knew the victims.
