Throughout the country over the next few days, numerous parades and services in honor of Martin Luther King Jr., and the 25th anniversary of the holiday in his honor, are occurring; Southern California remembers and honors the great civil rights leader and his legacy with family-oriented festivals and traditional parades:
Martin Luther King, Jr. Peace and Unity Parade and Celebration: Stepping off at 10:30AM on Saturday January 16th, the parade ends around noon at Martin Luther King, Jr. Park (1950 Lemon Avenue, Long Beach). Be sure to make time for the party at the park, which includes eats, music, speeches and activities for kids and grown-ups, too. January 16, 10:30AM-5PM (the park celebration begins at 12:30PM).
There are several events surrounding King Week 2010, including the 33rd Annual Martin Luther King Jr. Awards Gala & Fundraiser. The theme is Justice is Universal, and the date is Monday, January 18th. Get the info on the Sheraton Gateway celebration.
The Kingdom Day Parade returns with marching bands, dozens of floats, drill teams and a closing celebration at Leimert Park Village. The 2010 theme is "Yesterday's Dream is Today's Reality."
