The Cinefamily plays "Ichabod & Mr. Toad" on Tuesday, Oct. 5.

Poor Ichabod Crane. His lankyness and Adam's-apple-o-sity and knack for ingratiating himself with uninterested parties have grown outsized through the ages, along with his propensity to run from jack o'lantern-wielding wraiths on horseback. Wraiths sans heads.

So we're giving the famous Washington Irving character, the protagonist of "The Legend of Sleepy Hollow," his October due. He'll be getting more attention courtesy of Jerry Beck, and Mr. Beck's Cartoon Monster Mash, at Cinefamily at the Silent Movie Theatre on Tuesday, Oct. 5.

"Ichabod & Mr. Toad" is the centerpiece of the night, along with some other animated Halloween goodies. If you've seen the 1949 Disney classic "Ichabod & Mr. Toad," you well remember the incredibly fun and intense chase scene between Mr. Crane and Mr. Horseman at the end ("Headless," we believe his friends call him, when they're not running in terror).

And you remember Bing Crosby, ba-ba-buu-ba-ba-ing, in his one-of-a-kind way.

Mr. Toad, of course, is Mr. Toad from Kenneth Grahame's "The Wind in the Willows." Should we all be more like that merry, waistcoated rapscallion? Less his propensity for borrowing motorcars and crashing them, of course.

In short, Ichabod Crane, we're on your side, cartoonnisly bobbing Adam's apple and all. We love your circa-1820-nerd-chic, and we, too, would run from some pumpkin-hurling spirit if called upon to do so. So don't sweat the doubters.
