And while panels, signings, author sightings, and the buying of books at discounts -- really excellent discounts -- are hallmarks of the festival, so is finding a short length of grass, somewhere on the UCLA Campus, and stretching out with a just-purchased novel in hand.
The Festival of Books, after all, is a spring thing, and enjoying the alfresco, slightly sybaritic nature of a day out among books is part of the scene.
But those aforementioned authors are part of the scene as well, and, as in years past, there are many, and there are many famous names among those many. Mary Higgins Clark, Robert Crais, Dave Eggers, and Herman Wouk are among the dozens and dozens of writers slated to attend. Mr. Wouk, by the way, is soon to celebrate his 95th birthday. A literary legend indeed.
As with all mega-anythings, but certainly mega-anythings that revolve around multiple panels and signings, best check out the schedule in advance and plan your visit. And save 20 minutes for a grassy stretch-out, too.
