Jon Stewart Bashes Trump at Comedy Charity Event

Stewart wondered aloud how a man who lives in a tower with his name in gold letters could think the election was rigged against him.

Late night hosts have been openly taking shots at Donald Trump. Stephen Colbert, Seth Meyers and Samantha Bee are among those most critical of the Republican presidential nominee. But one former late night host has been missing out on delivering satirical news on a daily basis.

But Tuesday night, Jon Stewart was given the opportunity to dig in.

At the 10th annual "Stand Up for Heroes" charity event at New York’s Madison Square Garden, Stewart kicked off the star-studded comedy line up. Other comedians included Jim Gaffigan, Louis C.K. and Jerry Seinfeld -- the event benefits the Bob Woodruff Foundation for veterans.

Stewart opened his routine by wondering aloud how Trump, a man who lives in a tower with his name in gold letters, could think the election is rigged.

“How much better would you be if ‘the man’ wasn’t keeping you down?” Stewart wondered.

Stewart and the real-estate businessman have a bit of history. He recounted the story of his Twitter feud with Trump from a few years ago. Stewart, then the host of "The Daily Show," made a joke about Trump on air to which he did not take kindly.

“I promise you that I’m much smarter than Jonathan Leibowitz - I mean Jon Stewart @TheDailyShow,” Trump tweeted. “Who, by the way, is totally overrated.”

Stewart realized that Trump was trying to reveal the Stewart was Jewish by referring to him by his birth name. So, of course, he had to respond.

“Many people don’t know this but Donald Trump’s real name is F***face Von Clownstick,” The Daily Show tweeted back.

Stewart also commented on Trump’s recent lewd comments about women, which Trump has since referred to as “locker room talk.” Stewart, a former athlete, condemned the comments and said that if it were truly said in a locker room setting, other teammates would say, “I’m pretty sure that’s a crime.”

Jon Stewart made a guest appearance on “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert” following Trump’s official candidacy for president in July. But he told the audience Tuesday night that even “on the eve of the last American election ever,” he was happy to be off the air.

“Vote wisely November 8,” Stewart said.
