Zach Galifianakis Takes “Real Toke” With Bill Maher

A discussion about California's controversial Proposition 19 ballot measure to legalize marijuana on HBO's "Real Time with Bill Maher" went up in smoke. Literally.

On the October 29 episode of the show, the panel, which included "Hangover" star Zach Galifianakis, talked about whether or not the Golden State's lastest battle over pot would lead to it being legalized at the polls on Tuesday, reports the New York Daily News. The bearded comic commented that politicians often shied away from talking about the topic because it remains "taboo."

That's when things got interesting.

As the talk contiuned, Galifianakis reached into his jacket pocket, pulled out a joint, lit it, and then took a toke before offering it to fellow panelist, Margaret Hoover, a conservative talk show host. Laughing, she took a whiff and her face indicated that Zach was indeed smoking the real thing. She then attempted to pass it off to another guest, conservative writer Reihan Salam, who declined by saying he was going to "pass the mic."

Hoover then gave it back to Galifianakis, who continued to puff away during the rest of the segment while Maher and the fourth guest, MSNBC's Lawrence O'Donnell stared on slackjawed.
