Baby Swans Missing from Palace of Fine Arts

NBC Bay Area

Surviving swans seen at the Palace of Fine Arts in San Francisco, Friday, May 23, 2014.

Two baby swans born at San Francisco’s Palace of Fine Arts are missing.

Swan caretakers say it’s likely a snapping turtle, a big-mouth bass or an owl got the birds.

The babies appeared last Friday. They came as a surprise because four real eggs had been swapped out with four fake eggs to keep the population down.

Volunteer caretakers say, while the disappearance is sad, the swans would probably have been killed by their father come mating time.
