Grand Jury: Wright is Wrong About Where He Lives

State Senator Indicted on Residency Fraud Charges

A Los Angeles County Grand Jury has indicted State Sen. Roderick Wright on charges he does not live in the Inglewood district he represents in Sacramento.

The eight-count indictment accused the Democratic senator of voter fraud, perjury and filing a false declaration of candidacy.

The indictment alleged Wright actually lives in Baldwin Hills, which is part of the 26th Senatorial District. Wright is the Senator for the 25th District.

Wright pleaded not guilty to the charges Thursday and is due back in court on Oct. 8.

Prosecutors in the Los Angeles District Attorney's public integrity division brought the case against Wright, alleging his does not live in the Inglewood apartment he has used as his voting address and his address on his candidacy papers.

State lawmakers are required to live in the districts they serve.

This is the second time in less than two months that a Los Angeles politician has faced criminal charges over possibly residency fraud.

Los Angeles City Councilman Richard Alarcon and his wife were indicted last month on similar charges.
