Grim Sleeper Case: LAPD Tentatively IDs 20 Women

The photographs were seized in July at the property of the suspected Grim Sleeper

Los Angeles police detectives have been able to identify about 20 of the women depicted in the 180 images released Friday in connection with "Grim Sleeper" serial killer suspect Lonnie David Franklin Jr.

According to the LAPD, detectives have been able to remove 29 photos from the original 180. Eight of them were duplicates and one was a previously known victim. Of the remaining 20, most are alive and well, while a few have died from natural causes and some have been identified as missing, police told City News Service.

The women are among 160 whose photographs were discovered at the property, according to detectives. Authorities released the photographs last week. Investigators said they've received hundreds of phone calls, e-mails and other tips regarding the subjects in the photos.

Franklin was arrested July 8 on suspicion of killing at least 10 young women and one man in South Los Angeles between 1985 and 2007. The killer was dubbed the Grim Sleeper because of a long gap between killings.
