Los Angeles City Councilmen Want Angelenos to be Allowed to Own More Cats

The reason behind the move is to reduce animal kills rates at city shelters

Los Angeles City Councilmen Bill Rosendahl and Paul Koretz introduced a motion Monday to help reduce the kill rate of cats in city run animal shelters by raising the number of cats Angelenos may own.

Rosendahl and Koretz asked that the five member Los Angeles City Council Public Safety Committee to look into increasing the number of cats "that a city resident may own" from three to five.

Rosenthal and supporters hope shelter kill rates will drop if more Angelenos are allowed to own more than three cats.  No final decision was made at the meeting.

Minutes from this morning's meeting can be viewed on the Los Angeles City Council Public Safety Committee website.

Koretz told NBCLA he hopes to do the same thing for Angelenos and dogs in the near future.
