1 Dead, 3 Hospitalized After Ocean Rescue in Redondo Beach

One man was dead and three people were seriously injured after rescuers responded to an emergency in Redondo Beach Wednesday night, authorities said.

Multiple witnesses contacted firefighters around 11:13 p.m. and reported people in the ocean calling for help, according to a news release from the Redondo Beach Fire Department.

Harbor Patrol responded by boat and found four people at the base of the break wall. A rescue swimmer dived into the water to aid with the rescue effort and found two men and two women in serious condition, according to the Redondo Beach Fire Department.

All four people were loaded onto the rescue boat and transported back to the Harbor Patrol dock where paramedics awaited them, according to the Redondo Beach Fire Department.

One man was pronounced dead and the remaining three were transported to a hospital in serious condition.
