A major emergency structure fire in Van Nuys was extinguished Wednesday night after more than 125 firefighters battled the blaze for nearly two hours, fire officials said.
A fire broke out in a one-story commercial building in the 6600 block of N. Van Nuys Boulevard, around 5 p.m.
The flames were still licking that building at 6 p.m., when fire officials reported that the roof was in danger of collapsing.
Two firefighters were injured and taken to a local hospital, both were in fair condition. The building was reportedly empty at the time the blaze broke out, officials said. No other injuries were reported.
There was reportedly plenty of combustible materials inside the building, identified as 6633 Van Nuys Blvd., located inside a strip mall containing a thrift shop and discount shoe store.
Ladder pipes pumping 2,000 gallons of water per minute were aimed at the structure.
Fire officials received several 9-1-1 calls about the flame, said Erik Scott with Los Angeles Fire Department.

A rescue ambulance was near the scene and reported the type and size of the building to fire officials, who called for additional resources, he said.
