At least 1,000 Hamilton High School students walked out of class Friday to protest teacher layoffs.
Students chanted "Save our Schools" outside Hamilton and returned to classrooms at about 10:30 a.m. Organizers said parents and teachers planned to meet the students for a rally.
Hamilton's teachers are among 7,000 in the LAUSD who have received layoff notices.
At Belvedere Middle School in East Los Angeles, some music students demonstrated before school, but they did not miss any classes, Morgan said.
LAUSD Superintendent Ramon Cortines said he shares the frustrations of students over budget cutbacks and possible layoffs.
