Brothers Convicted in Murder Plot to Collect on $2.5M Insurance Policy

A 37-year-old man and his younger brother have been convicted in a plot to collect on a $2.5 million insurance policy by killing the man's ex-boyfriend, prosecutors said Friday.

A jury on Friday found Hovanes "John" Maskovian guilty of murder and attempted kidnapping in the 2013 slaying of 33-year-old Joshua West, the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office said.

He was also found guilty of special circumstances of lying in wait, murder for financial gain and murder during an attempted kidnapping.

Maskovian's 31-year-old brother, Hachik "Kriss" Maskovian, was also found guilty of the same charges by a separate jury a day earlier.

On April 24, 2013, the victim was lured to Sun Valley, where prosecutors say the brothers beat him, ran him over with a car and shot him. West's body was then dumped in the 10200 block of Penrose Street.

Sentencing is set to take place for Hovanes Maskovian on Aug. 25 and his brother the following day. They face a sentence of life in prison without the possibility of parole.

A third co-defendant, 22-year-old Nazaret "Nick" Bayamdzhyan, is awaiting trial for his role, prosecutors said.
