Cows Lassoed After Slow-Speed Stampede Through Antelope Valley Neighborhood

The calf ducked back behind a bush in a cunning move to avoid capture during the two-hour hoof pursuit in the Antelope Valley

Call them the Thelma and Louise of Quartz Hill.

Two cows on the run overnight evaded capture for about two hours before finding themselves at the end of their rope in the high desert north of Los Angeles.

The clip-clop of hooves on the street echoed through the neighborhood early Friday after the cow and her calf escaped from their corral. Officers and a photographer followed the slow-speed stampede as the cows wandered into a driveway and explored the Antelope Valley community.

The docile animals also seemed to enjoy attention from a resident who stopped to pet them near a fence.

One woman tried to lasso the calf, which evaded capture by ducking behind a bush. After about two hours on the lam, the owner roped the cow's horns and the calf followed them back home.
