A brother and sister were killed Thursday in a crash blocks away from their Wilmington high school in a crash police are investigating as a street race, officials said.
The crash happened at 350 W. Pacific Coast Highway, near Island Avenue, about 3:16 p.m., said Brian Humphrey of the Los Angeles Fire Department.
The two killed were students at Banning High School, police said. The school is about three blocks from the scene of the crash.
Los Angeles police said after the crash that four people were killed, but later changed that information back to two and said they were incorrect in reporting four deaths. The deceased were identified by the coroner's office early Friday as Elexis Garica, 18, and Elias Garcia, 16.
Up to three others were hurt in the crash, police said.
Surveillance video shows a red car and a truck speeding, the red car in opposing lanes of traffic, police said.
Inside the car that crashed were four high schoolers. Brother and sister Lexi and Eli Garcia were killed on impact.

The others were taken to the hospital, along with the driver of a van.
As news spread, family members broke down as they were overcome with grief, while others ran across the street lashing out at a news photographer.
Friends shared pictures on Facebook and Instagram of the brother and sister they say were inseparable.
"They were really close," said friend Angel Martinez. "If one of them would have been saved, they would have been really hurt, but they both went together."
