Fireman Injured Fighting 4 Acre Pallet Blaze in Fontana

Thick columns of smoke and flames reaching 60 feet high could be seen from miles around due to the blaze at the 13700 block of Santa Ana Avenue, San Bernardino Fire Department Engineer Ryan Beckers said.

A fireman was injured fighting a blaze that ripped through four acres of pallets in a commercial yard in Fontana Thursday.

Thick columns of smoke and flames reaching 60 feet high could be seen from miles around due to the blaze at the 13700 block of Santa Ana Avenue, San Bernardino Fire Department Engineer Ryan Beckers said.

The firefighter sustained a non-life-threatening injury and was transported to a local hospital for treatment. There were no other injuries.

The incident was reported at 10 p.m, and firefighters were still working into the morning to control the inferno, and prevent it from spreading to a nearby tire yard. They managed to contain the fire at around 12:20 a.m, though large tires from heavy equipment was still burning.

The business, a home and 30 trailers were saved, however one structure did suffer damage.

In total 60 firefighters were involved in combatting the blaze, with Ontario Fire and Rancho Cucamonga Fire department firemen also on the scene.

Area streets where closed off for emergency crews and at least 2 businesses where evacuated. 

No injuries were reported and the cause of the fire is still under investigation.
