Attempted Rape Suspect Accused of Climbing Through Girl's Bedroom Window

The 57-year-old crawled through the victim's window and stood over her bed

A 57-year-old Fontana man was arrested on suspicion of attempted rape after allegedly climbing through a window and into a 16-year-old girl's bedroom.

Armando Contreras also was arrested on suspicion of burglary and child annoying. The man first talked with the victim July 19 in Fontana, where he was staying with family members in a nearby home, police said.

"He came back after a night of drinking and saw the victim's window was open," said Sgt. Brian Heaviside. "He crawled through the window and stood over her bed with the intention of having sex with her."

The victim woke up and screamed, which startled Contreras, police said. He fled from the home and was detained later that day after the victim's father called police, authorities said.

Heaviside said Contreras has made a full confession and was booked into West Valley Detention Center in Rancho Cucamonga. It was not immediately clear whether he had an attorney.

The San Bernardino County District Attorney's Office has only filed the burglary charges, to which Contreras pleaded not guilty. His bail has been set at $75,000 and he is expected to appear at the West Valley Superior court Monday for the burglary charges.
