Inmate Ditches GPS Monitor, Walks Away From Los Angeles Re-Entry Facility

State corrections officials were looking Saturday for a state prison inmate who ditched his monitor and walked away from the Male Community Reentry Program in downtown Los Angeles, authorities said.

At about 10:30 a.m. officials were notified the GPS device of Andre Miller, 30, had been tampered with and an emergency search was conducted at the facility at Alvarado and Sixth streets.

Staff saw Miller exit the facility by a side door and his GPS device was found in his bedroom, officials said.

Area law enforcement agencies were notified within minutes and state corrections agents were dispatched to locate and apprehend Miller, officials said.

He is described as 5 feet 9 inches tall, weighing 175 pounds. He was serving a two-year sentence for two counts of commercial burglary that started June 30, 2016. He was transferred from the California Institution for Men to the MCRP Friday and was scheduled for release on probation in May, officials said.

Anyone with information on Miller's whereabouts was asked to call police. The MCRP is designed to help inmates transition from custody to the community, officials said.
