LAPD Officer Injured, Suspect Dead After Shooting

Police say an officer was injured while responding to a shooting call and a suspect was fatally shot by at least one officer in Wilmington Tuesday night.

Police received a call regarding a man with a gun around 9 p.m. Tuesday, said Lt. Chris Ramirez of the Los Angeles Police Department.

When two officers arrived in the area of Wilmington Boulevard south of Pacific Coast Highway, a shooting occurred, police said. At least one officer fired multiple times at the man, who died at the scene. What prompted the shooting was unknown.

The suspect had only been identified as a man in his 20s early Wednesday.

It was initially reported that an officer was shot in the arm, but police later said he was injured while getting out of his patrol car. He was released from the hospital and his injuries were unknown.

Police said the officers were wearing body camera that were rolling during the incident, which could aid the investigation.

Images from the scene showed a white tent over the front of a police cruiser that was stopped askew on the sidewalk. It wasn't immediately clear if the deceased suspect also was struck by a police cruiser.

It was unknown whether the suspect had a gun.
