Pursuit Driver, Passenger Surrender in Middle of East Hollywood Intersection

The driver swerved through a fuel station and almost struck pedestrian in a crowded crosswalk before coming to a stop

A pursuit on streets and freeways northeast of downtown Los Angeles ended Thursday afternoon with a brief standoff at an East Hollywood intersection.

One passenger exited the vehicle when it stopped in the middle of Vermont Avenue north of Sunset Boulevard, but the driver remained in the Chrysler 300 for several minutes before surrendering.

The men, in a stolen vehicle, were wanted in connection with a robbery report at a fuel station in the 300 block of East 101st Street, police said. The driver was on the 101 Freeway near downtown LA before exiting onto Alvarado Street in the Silver Lake area and swerving through a fuel station.

The driver stopped just in time to avoid pedestrians in a crowded East Hollywood crosswalk and drove on a sidewalk on Vermont Avenue before surrendering at Maubert and Vermont avenues.

The driver will likely be booked for robbery and felony evading, police said.
