Man Arrested for Double Stabbing in Anaheim, Victims Remain in Critical Condition

An Anaheim resident was arrested on two counts of attempted murder Saturday, after a double stabbing left two people in critical condition Thursday.

Flavio Marquez, 35, was arrested Saturday afternoon and is suspected of stabbing a man and a woman Thursday night in Anaheim

A 32-year-old man, of Garden Grove, and a 30-year-old woman, of Anaheim, were critically wounded in the stabbings, which occurred within a block from each other. Their location led Anaheim police to believe the incidents were related.

They were investigating the stabbings as "one continuous event" that started in one place and ended in another, said Anaheim police Sgt Daron Wyatt.

Officers were asked at 7:59 p.m. Thursday to respond to a shooting in the 1100 block West Ball Road, Wyatt said. Responding officers discovered the man actually was suffering from a stab wound when they found him on the sidewalk near the Springhill Suites Hotel on Ball Road.

Two minutes later, officers were asked to respond to a stabbing in front of the Holiday Inn in the 1200 block of South Walnut Street, where the woman was stabbed.

Both victims were taken to hospitals, and were in still in critical condition Saturday, according to the Anaheim Police Department.

While the incident occurred near the Disneyland Resort, it was not linked to the resort, which was not affected in any way, Wyatt said.

Investigators from the Anaheim Police Department Gang Detail and Crime Task Force arrested Marquez in connection with the stabbings without incident while he was walking through a park "not far" from where the stabbings happened Thursday, police said in a statement.

He was booked at the Anaheim Detention Facility, and is being held on $1,000,000 bail, police said. They believe the motive behind the stabbings was "narcotics related."

No connection had been made between the two victims as of Friday morning, according to Wyatt.

Anyone with information regarding the incident was urged to contact Crime Stoppers at (855) TIP-OCCS or, by email, at occrimestoppers.org.
