Man Fatally Shot While Leaving Home in Hawthorne

Authorities were investigating the death of a man Tuesday, who was gunned down while leaving a residence in Hawthorne Monday night.

The shooting was reported at 8:41 p.m. Monday in the 11900 block of Daleside Avenue, where Hawthorne police officers found the victim slumped over the steering wheel of his parked vehicle.

Sheriff's homicide detectives were summoned to the scene to assist in the investigation, according to Deputy Kimberly Alexander of the Sheriff's Information Bureau.

Detectives learned the victim was getting into his car after leaving a residence at the location. A male walked up to the victim, produced a hand gun and opened fire, striking him multiple times in the upper body, Alexander said.

The victim was transported to a local hospital, where he died. Information about the shooter was not immediately available.
