Cal State Northridge Student Killed in Fiery Crash

A 21-year-old man faces felony DUI charges in connection with a fiery car crash that killed a 19-year-old Cal State Northridge student and injured five other people early Sunday, according to police.

The crash took place about 3:30 a.m. when the man's Honda Civic collided with a Ford Mustang near the intersection of Roscoe Boulevard and Lindley Avenue in Northridge, killing the Mustang's driver, Los Angeles Police Department officials said. She was identified by the coroner's office as Desirae Crystal Crittenden.

Police believe the crash occurred when one of the drivers ran a red light. The Mustang burst into flames upon impact, police said.

All four occupants of the Civic were hospitalized, including a passenger who was in critical condition. The driver suffered a broken leg.

Crittenden's passenger was also injured, though her condition was unknown.

The fatal crash was one of several suspected DUI crashes in the San Fernando Valley over the Father's Day weekend.
