Evidence markers littered the street Wednesday where investigators say an off-duty U.S. Homeland Security officer driving a silver Infinity fired his weapon during a car-to-car confrontation that felt to him like a carjacking.
People living nearby described loud, repetitive gunshots at around 7:45 p.m. just off the Harbor (110) Freeway at South Figueroa and West Anaheim streets.
Benjamin Rodriguez said he was at home, feeding his kids when he heard up to eight shots and speed off.
The white Mazda carrying the alleged carjacker rolled a few more blocks to Pacific Coast Highway and Marine, with bullet holes showing.
The woman driving was detained and an ambulance scooped up her wounded male passenger.
The officer is OK. The suspect has two bullet wounds to the abdomen and one to the arm, said Los Angeles Police Department Capt. Michael Oreb.
It was unknown if the wounded man was armed.
