Man Found Dead on Freeway in Suspected Hit and Run

Police were searching for the driver who fatally struck a 50-year-old man on the freeway in a suspected hit-and-run collision on Thursday.

Drivers reported to authorities around 7: 25 p.m. that a person was face down in lanes on the eastbound side of the 60 Freeway just before the Downey Road exit, west of the 710 Freeway, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The man was confirmed dead at the scene.

Authorities said they were not sure why the man was on the freeway, but said the driver who struck him apparently did not stop to render aid or report the incident.

Three eastbound lanes and the Downey Road off-ramp were closed for several hours, and a SigAlert was issued as officers investigated the death.

Annette Arreola and Beverly White contributed to this report.
