A pickup involved in a hit-and-run crash burned as the driver left the location of the crash in Cerritos before stopping the vehicle in Buena Park, according to the California Highway Patrol

The crash involving the pickup and sport utility vehicle with three passengers occurred at Carmenita Road and South Street, the CHP said.

"When he collided, his engine caught on fire and it started smoking slowly at the scene of the collision," said CHP Sgt. Rick Vargas.

By the time the driver arrived at Indiana Street and Orangethorpe Avenue in Buena Park, flames were coming from the pickup's engine bay and cab. The driver suffered a laceration to the face.

The driver will be booked on suspicion of hit-and-run, Vargas said.

Three people in a sport utility vehicle that was struck by the subject were hospitalized as a precaution, Vargas said.
