A 45-year-old woman was found dead - apparently "assaulted and asphyxiated" - in her San Gabriel home, police said early Wednesday.

The woman's friends discovered her body Tuesday night in the bedroom of her home in the 500 block of East Valley Boulevard. They were there to check on her because they hadn't heard from her for several days, according to a San Gabriel Police Department statement.
