Man Who Led Police on Chase Arrested on Suspicion of Burglary

A burglary suspect who led officers on a high-spped pursuit from Arcadia to Westmont, near LAX, was taken into custody on Friday, police said.

Officers responded to a report of a suspicious vehicle parked in the driveway of a home in the 200 block of Monte Place with a man standing by, according to the Arcadia Police Department.

The man, later identified as Steve Gainer of Paramount, drove off in the vehicle and was last seen southbound on Highland Oaks Drive. Officers located the vehicle getting onto the eastbound 210 Freeway and attempted to stop it.

When Gainer failed to yield, a chase began on the freeway. The California Highway Patrol took over the pursuit and apprehended the driver in the Westmont community of unincorporated Los Angeles County around 9:40 p.m..

A police scanner and stolen property from the Arcadia home were found inside the suspect's vehicle. The 32-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of residential burglary and felony evading.

He was being held in lieu of $125,000 bail at the Arcadia City Jail.
