A pizza delivery driver who was shot in the head after a suspected road rage incident has died, according to police.

Juan David Vasquez Loma was driving two of his co-workers home on Silver Lake Boulevard early Sunday when a suspect pulled alongside his car and began shooting, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.

Vasquez was struck in the head and crashed into a parked Mercedes-Benz, according to Lt. Steve Flores.

He died at  9:55 a.m. Tuesday at LA County USC Medical Center, the LAPD said.

It was unclear what prompted the confrontation but police believe it was mostly likely road rage. Loma had passed the suspect just before the shooting at Silver Lake Boulevard and West Scott Place.

Friends and co-workers said Loma was compassionate and hard working. He was attending Evans Community Adult School in the morning to learn English and held two late-night jobs so he could send money to his mother living in Mexico.

"He didn’t deserve this," said Chris Tian, manager at El Chavo Restaurant where Loma worked as a busser for three years. "He was doing a good deed, taking his co-workers home at five in the morning after working two jobs."

Tian said Loma worked at El Chavo five days a week until 11 p.m. before going to his second job, delivering for Garage Pizza until 4 a.m.

Friends and family of Vasquez have set up a fund with Citibank to help cover bereavement expenses. Those who wish to donate can contribute to account # 204204192.

Anyone with information about the shooting can call the LAPD Northeast Homicide Division at (213) 847-4261.

Correction: In a previous version of this story, Juan David Vasquez Loma was incorrectly identified as 25 years old. His correct age is 20, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.
