SWAT Standoff Follows Attempt to Serve Warrant at San Bernardino Home

The standoff began after authorities attempted to serve a warrant in a narcotics investigation

SWAT members and armored police vehicles responded to a San Bernardino home where at least five people were barricaded after authorities attempted Thursday morning to serve a narcotics warrant.

Aerial video showed six people being taken into custody at about 9 a.m. Details regarding the subjects were not immediately available, but at least two of them were in handcuffs.

The standoff at 17th Street and Massachusetts Avenue was in a neighborhood just southwest of the 215 Freeway and northeast of Roosevelt Elementary School. The subjects likely had weapons inside the residence and nearby homes were evacuated as SWAT members responded, police said.

The situation began after members of the Fontana Police Department attempted to serve a "high-risk" narcotics warrant at the single-story house Thursday morning, said Lt. Richard Lawhead, of the San Bernardino Police Department.

"They made contact with the residents, and the people inside the residence were't cooperative," said Lawhead. "We have what we believe are five to six people inside the residence that are armed."

The people in the home were identified as males and females ranging in age from about 15 to possibly 75, Lawhead said.

Aerial video showed at least two armored police vehicle at the home.
