Officers Search for Robbery Suspect Near USC Campus

A search was conducted near the USC campus Sunday night for a person wanted in connection with a robbery report, police said.

Police said a person tried to steal keys from a convenience store customer in the area. A perimeter was set up at Vermont Avenue and Exposition Boulevard, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.

The university’s TrojansAlert system sent out a message at 10:17 p.m. telling students that gates 1, 5 and 6 were temporarily closed due to police activity. The alert said the activity was not USC-related. Students were being warned to stay away from the area.

No arrests were reported Monday morning. Two officers responding to the report were involved in a crash with a pickup at a nearby intersection.

The officers' and pickup driver's injuries were described as minor, police said.
