At about 10:40 a.m., Los Angeles police received a report of a shooting victim near a campus gate (map). The gang-related shooting did not involve USC students and occurred "several miles" from the USC campus, school officials said.

School officials issued an alert that asked students to stay out of the campus' Gate 6 area because of a medical emergency at the location. The alert indicated that the emergency is "non-USC affiliated."

The victim's car was behind yellow police tape near the campus gate. The car-to-car shooting occurred near 57th Street and Hoover Street, about two miles south of where the victim was discovered.

The victim was hospitalized. Details regarding the victim's condition were not immediately available.
