A 3-year-old girl was hospitalized after being bitten by a snake - possibly a juvenile python - while walking with her parents at a San Dimas park Tuesday, fire officials said.

Firefighters received a report of a bite about 1:25 p.m. near Camper View and Via Verde Park roads at Bonelli Regional Park, the Los Angeles County Fire Department said.

The bite took place moments after the family had arrived to the park.

"When they looked down they noticed she had a little puncture mark, and that's when the father recognized and saw there was a snake literally in the grass," a fire captain out of the Pomona station said.

Firefighters said the girl appeared to be "in good shape" when they arrived to the scene. She was taken to Pomona Valley Hospital Medical Center in stable condition.

There were no other children in the area at the time, according to fire officials.

Deputies canvassed the area, but no snake was found.
