Son Arrested After Hemet Couple Found Gunned Down

Police located the son of the couple in Anaheim later that day

Police have arrested a man on suspicion of gunning down his parents in their Riverside County mobile home, authorities said Friday.

Michael Underwood, 71, and his wife Laura Underwood, 68, of Hemet, were allegedly killed by their son during a domestic dispute, Hemet police said.

David Underwood, 42, of Yorba Linda, was arrested a few hours after the homicides and remains in custody in lieu of $1 million bail.

Police received reports of gunshots in the area of the Hemet West Mobile Estates, in the 5000 block of Florida Avenue, just after 8 a.m. Thursday and found the couple dead.

David Underwood was quickly identified as a suspect and located later that day in Anaheim by authorities, police said.

At a town hall meeting with residents of the mobile home park, Hemet Police Chief Dave Brown told residents he is confident the incident was related to a domestic disturbance and neighbors do not face any danger, according to a police statement.

There had been reports of domestic disputes at the home in the past, according to neighbors.

Police are asking anyone with information to call 951-765-2400.
