Competition will begin Tuesday in judo, kayaking and equestrian events at the 2015 Special Olympics World Games, while medal events will be held in bowling, cycling, powerlifting, rhythmic gymnastics, roller skating, swimming and the Italian sport of bocce.

The equestrian events will be held at the Los Angeles Equestrian Center in Griffith Park, with competition in dressage, English equitation, working trails and a two-person relay. Equitation is judged on the rider's position and ability to influence the horse and is the basis for determining divisions.

The kayaking events will be held at Marine Stadium in Long Beach. Special Olympics kayaking events use touristic-type boats which are more stable than professional flat-water racing kayaks. Special Olympics requires all athletes to pass a swimming test before races and to wear a lifejacket during the races.

The judo competition will be held at UCLA's Student Activity Center. At Special Olympics, athletes are divisioned according to their ability levels, not only by weight and gender. The major difference between Special Olympics and mainstream judo competitions is that there are no strangulations or arm-locks allowed at Special Olympics.
