Suspected Stolen Vehicle Police Pursuit Ends With Smashed Window

A police pursuit of a suspected stolen vehicle that began in South Los Angeles Saturday night concluded with a smashed window and a female driver in handcuffs near downtown Los Angeles' Fashion District.

Newschopper4 Bravo caught up with the police pursuit shortly before 9 p.m. in the South Park neightborhood of South Los Angeles. The red pickup truck was not driving at high speeds and was obeying traffic laws for the most part, though the vehicle did drive the wrong way on the one-way street at one point.

Aided by the slow speeds, an LAPD officer walked up to the vehicle and attempted to deploy a spoke strip at one stage. However, the spike strip was unsuccessful, and the red truck continued forward.

At approximately 9:20 p.m., an LAPD cruiser successfully performed a pit maneuver, and the red pickup truck spun out of control and came to a stop. At that point, the pursuit effectively ended, and LAPD vehicles surrounded the suspect.

However, the suspect did not exit the vehicle, and police stood at the ready with guns drawn. So, the pursuit turned into a standoff.

Shortly before 9:30 p.m., an LAPD cruiser was placed behind the pursuit vehicle, as police officers ensured that the vehicle would not back away and resume a police pursuit.

The short standoff concluded when officers approached the vehicle from both sides and smashed open the front passenger window and pulled the female suspect out of the vehicle at approximately 9:32 p.m on 12th Street near Hooper Avenue at the south end of downtown Los Angeles' Fashion District.
