Traffic was shut down near the Burbank airport on Monday because of a report of a suspicious package.

A suspicious package found near the Burbank airport Monday morning brought a bomb squad to the scene and temporarily shut down traffic flow in the area.

A call came in to police at 9:30 a.m. with a report of a suspicious package in an overnight drop box near the Community Bank at 2800 Hollywood Way (map), according to Sgt. Darin Ryburn of the Burbank Police Department.

The item was "cleared" by the bomb squad just before noon, he said. The bank remained closed, Ryburn said.

Hollywood Way, a main arterial that passes in front of Burbank Bob Hope Airport, reopened after being closed from Thornton Avenue to San Fernando Road.

Winona Avenue was closed from California to Hollywood Way was expected to reopen by 12:15 p.m.

The airport remained functional and open, Ryburn said.
