Evacuations were ordered and streets near the Tesoro Refinery in Carson were closed Friday afternoon due to what authorities described as a chemical release at the site.
Details about the chemical release were not immediately available. Authorities are attempting to determine whether is poses a threat to the surrounding area.
Alameda Street was closed between 223rd and Sepulveda Boulevard.
The evacuations were ordered for about a quarter-mile radius around the property. It was not immediately clear how many, if any, residences were affected by the evacuation.
No injuries were reported.
