Flowers and candles adorn the crash site where three people died in a fiery car wreck in Crenshaw. Friends of the victims say one of them was an up-and-coming rapper in the area. Gadi Schwartz reports for the NBC4 News at 11 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 12, 2014.
Flowers and candles adorned the site where three people died and another was seriously hurt in a fiery car crash in Crenshaw on Sunday.
Authorities responded about 2:50 a.m. to reports of a single-vehicle wreck in the 2800 block of Coliseum Street, according to the Los Angeles Fire Department.
The Cadillac Escalade was coming home from a party when it slammed into a tree and became fully engulfed in flames, officials said.
Friends identified one of the three who died as an up-and-coming rapper, whose music was playing as mourners gathered to remember the victims.
Barbara Skinner, a resident nearby said she heard a car speeding down the street just before the crash.
"Then I heard the boom," Skinner said.
Skinner said she tried to save a person from the back seat, but they were too heavy to move.
Three people were pronounced dead at the scene, and another man in the vehicle was still in critical condition at the hospital as of Sunday night.
The cause of the crash is still under investigation, and officials have not yet confirmed the identities of the victims.
