    An airport security employee was killed and multiple others were injured after a gunman opened fire inside Los Angeles International Airport Friday.

    Three terminals were evacuated, stranding throngs of travelers for hours and grounding flights in and out of the busy Southland airport.

    As investigators began to delve deeper, a timeline of the day's tragic events became clearer.

    Below is a preliminary timeline of what happened in and outside of LAX during Friday's chaotic situation, according to federal and local law enforcement agents.

    This timeline will be continuously updated with the latest information from investigators:

    9:22 a.m.: A man pulls a rifle out of his bag at a Transportation Security Agency checkpoint and opens fire. Evacuations begin immediately.

    9:45 a.m.: The Los Angeles Fire Department announces they are assisting law enforcement in a multi-patient incident at LAX.

    9:50 a.m.: Details emerge from a TSA spokesperson that an security employee is injured.

    10:16 a.m.: LAX issues ground stop and flights are no longer allowed to depart.

    10:35 a.m.: LAPD Chief Charlie Beck and LA Mayor Eric Garcetti arrive at the airport, after having navigated through dense traffic caused by the chaos inside LAX.

    10:51 a.m.: LAX tweets that a gunman is in custody and there have been "multiple injuries."

    11:30 a.m.: Airport Police chief, LAPD chief and Mayor Garcetti hold press conference to address the shooting.

    12:00 p.m.: Seven injuries are confirmed by LAX. Six of those injured were transported to hospitals.

    12:25 p.m.: LA County Coroner reports that one person is killed in the shooting. Later, FBI Special Agent in Charge David Bowdich confirms that victim was a TSA employee.

    3:29 p.m.: Paul Anthony Ciancia, 23, of Los Angeles, is identified by the FBI as the lone suspect in Friday's shooting. Bowdich said the alleged gunman is a New Jersey native. (Full story)

    4 p.m.: A national ground stop on arriving flights to LAX is lifted, meaning flights headed to Los Angeles can now depart, according to Nancy Suey Castles, spokeswoman for the airport.

    7:30 p.m.: A TSA officer killed inside LAX Terminal 3 is identified as Gerardo I. Hernandez, a 39-year-old husband and father of two. Two other TSA officers were wounded in the shooting. (Full story)
